Candling Eggs - Very Porous

I have the same experience-- my porous ones don't make it to hatch. Unfortunately this season, most of my hatching eggs have been on the porous side.

Thanks for the tip about bumping up the humidity-- I've got a hatch going now that I have increased the humidity above recommended levels (ex mero motu, having diagnosed my problem as low humidity) but I increased humidity because I thought my hygrometer was giving me a wrong reading not because my hatching eggs tend to be porous-- but it may work to my advantage--huh? a case of doing the right thing but having the wrong reason in mind but same purpose (i.e. increase humidity-- because I think hygrometer is screwed up & to increase hatch rate).

That's pretty cool if it works! Glad if I helped...I have two eggs in the 'bator right now with wax on them... one that I dipped because of pores, and one that has wax dabbed on cracks from shipping. Both are at 16 days and developing nicely. If the egg is cracked, but not weeping, it IS possible to save it.
I'm also finding that 55% humidity during the first 18 days is working well, with 65-70% for the last few days.

One of my D'uccle eggs is like that.... and it's air cell is significantly larger than the others. I'm hoping it makes it! It has been moving around and everything ... keeping my fingers crossed.

If I get more like that, I will definitely try the wax thing.

Also, I keep some of that anti-bacterial hand sanatizer by the incubator and I make sure to use it and allow it to dry all the way every time before I handle the eggs.
