Candling Eggs

How do I candle eggs properly? I found a chick inside an egg this morning and I don't want anymore accidents. Two eggs it looked like there was something inside and my brother just smashed one of them and it was just gone bad but I'm not sure about the other one.

How often are you collecting your eggs? It takes a while before you would be able to see a chick in the egg. It may have been a blood spot.

We made a homemade candler from a big gallon size can of beans. Drilled a dime size hole on the bottom of the empty can. We place it over a high powered led flashlight. The egg balances on the small hole and can be lightly spinned with confidence it won't fall and become damaged or broken.
Reuse of something that would of just helped fill up our local landfill.
BTW.. The baked beans that came with the can are a Delicious bonus!
