so I know there’s a thread or two on candling, I’ve read quite a bit.

Does anyone have any pictures of what things should actually look like, especially in a darker egg?

I am trying to hatch the eggs my chickens laid before dying, but I am having significant trouble telling if they are even viable. I can really only see dark blobs in some of them, and air pockets. Does the air pocket mean something’s happening?

One thing that will help when candling is to make sure you have a good enough light. Good enough meaning at least 500 lumens.
Another is doing it in a completely dark room...think closet.

How dark are the eggs?
Can you post a pic of one?

They’re between day 11 and day 8. All but one are very dark. All the chickens I used to have I bought as chicks, mostly to avoid this. But they were such a great bunch and this is what I had left, so I figured I’d try.

I do not think these are fertile.

We had 3 roosters. Definitely doing their jobs. I accidentally broke one that was def fertile. There were some changes in the first couple days while I had a hen sitting on them, but she was injured and stopped so we had some issues keeping them warm.

I am on my computer now and the photos above look different to me.
It does look like there is one that looks like it developed but I am not sure there are day 11 eggs.

Are you seeing veining in them?
