So I was candling my supermarket quail eggs, on day 5 I saw some veins but now it's day 9 and some are totally clear and some are very hard to see but it's dark and a small bit of clear and a tiny red line by the air cell. Are they fertile or not?

Yes you should really visit ireland, even though it's mostly wet and cold. I candled again there now, I saw veins on 2 eggs and the rest were questionable apart from all the infertile ones.

Can you try candling from the fat end? Were they fat end down in the incubator?

The second picture is an infertile egg that can be thrown away. The others look viable.

I'd love to visit Ireland again some time. I visited there for a few days back when I was 18, but out of my 8 weeks, the time I spent in Ireland I was sick in bed the whole time!

The red dark eggs are developing, the green clear ones are infertile. Veins seem to appear well days 3-5 and vanish for a while and then reappear for a day around day 10. Dark is good, and should fill the egg by day 12 or so.
