candling PICS your opinion?

are you sure ? ? ? hummmmmmmm i thought it was other way ? no !

Definitely. I found out the hard way that you should not turn eggs end over end (with the air cell down) to candle them. Put your light on the top shining down through the air cell to get that view. Also, don't spin them around when candling... learned that the hard way too

Do you mark X's and O's on your eggs for turning? 3 and 4 do look like the same pic, and I thought blood ring at first, too. But then I remembered some people mark the eggs to know when they've been turned. If that's not a circle drawn on it, I would say blood ring... and it's not a viable egg.

Good luck!!!

no probs guys .. thanks ... and yeah i mark x and O ...

Yes, large end up is correct. That's the end with the air sac. And I agree with the estimation already given as to which are fertile and which not. It's hard to candle the first time. And there are so many things to know about incubating--it's a learning experience every time for me. Good luck with your (hopefully) two fertile ones!

What if you candle them on their side? i don't think that could hurt them and long as you're not shaking them like a tiny can of paint. and if you MUSt turn, do it as gently as possible. i have never had any problems doing that.

that's how i candle my eggs, so i can check the size of the air sac along with growth.

My candler is a square wooden box with a light in it that sits on the table though too. works awesome but would be a little hard to turn upside down for candling from the top, lol.

Oh--for candling I didn't think it mattered--I think you're right. I was thinking of the direction they sit inside the incubator. I haven't worried about what direction I hold them while candling, but then I've only had one hatch and only a 50% hatch rate (though I think that had to do with my humidity at the end and the fact that I handled them too much during the hatch--yes, I've already given myself a good hand slapping over that and will NOT do it again--).
