I am getting ready to candle my eggs. Day 10. I just need to know how to hold the egg. The sticky section for candling shows the egg held sideways. I am bating mine in the turner, big end up. Is this how I hold them when I candle, should or can I turn them sideways, or is there a difference? I don't want to keep them out any longer than necessary, so I want to do it correctly the first time. thanks!

I candled every day and they so far are okay. I carefully rotate the egg, slowly to see the floating embryo, on it's side or big end up. If you are careful not to jar them of turn too fast and try not to place the small end higher than the large end, you'll be ok

We have an incubator with 24 eggs in the classroom; Thursday we had a man from the local Agriculture College come in and candle for us; he held them sideways and even moved them around, as he showed the students the veins, etc. Sadly, some of them do not seem to be viable...but I guess that is what hatching is all about. Good luck with yours.

Thank you grandmaof5!!! By the way, I'm a grandma of 5!!! Love those grandbabies!!! I just candled mine and from the ones we could see, we definately had movement in 4-5 of 13. Had one that must not have been fertile as there was nothing there. The others were maran and ee eggs, to dark to see much. But I'm very EGGCITED!!!
