OK..... So it was always easy for me to candle chicken eggs... Even the bantams were fine. But my quail eggs are giving me a heck of a hard time candling... I've only tried candling a few times. BTW, i quit turning the eggs last night and bumped up the humidity. Anyways... does anyone else have difficulty candling Coturnix quail eggs? What with the dark coloring of the eggs and dark spots and such.....

Yup, very hard. Button Quail eggs are worse, even darker shells.

The only thing I found that helps is to have an EXTREMELY bright light source, I use an LED high powered flashlight, to restrict the aperture of the light to about half an inch top so the light goes THROUGH the egg rather than around it, which washes out the image, and to do it in a really dark room.

On the last batch, I totally gave up on candling and just did the "sniff" test several times to weed out the rotten ones.
