i have a broody hen setting on eggs. these eggs are supposedly fertile. i want to be sure that they are indeed viable. when and how should i candle them? i don,t want to build a brooder pen unless its truly needed!

Usually anytime after day 7 in the incubation you can candle. You shine a bright flash light up through the egg and you should see veining and a baby moving around as it grows.
