Candling Question

I never even bother to candle until at least day 7 or 8. By then there shouldn't be any question on what you're seeing. I always figure the less you handle them the better.

I think it's day 4 now.

Katy, I know I shouldn't touch them, now that I know some are at least still alive I will try my hardest not to mess with them until day 7, which starts saturday at 9 pm, so that's my date for saturday night! lol

Gabrielle- Have you gotten your incubator yet?

Okay so I candled 1 more time.....lol

Okay I wanted to show my DH how I must be doing something right I have veins in some but you can tell which ones aren't doing anything either, but really I didn't know how "well" the rooster was doing his "job", lol. Of course the one I was candling at first and freaking out about. I feel better. Yay Me!!!

There was a bad side, I came home and my DH was trying to work the incubator because Lily, my 2 yr old, turned the dials down, I guess it was down to 97 when he caught it and turned it back up. BUT then the humidity was down, I didn't check the pan, my mistake, before I left for my meeting. So I hope it didn't mess it up too much.

I'm sure it will be fine...that temp variance shouldn't be harmful for that short a period of time.

Okay I am getting ready to candle for day 7 we'll see how it goes!!!

I just candled (Day 7) and it was very very obvious today where on day 3 and 4 it was questionable.

I started with 20 eggs shipped and 15 of my own stock. Out of the 20 I had shipped I had 7 buff silkies, 5 partridge silkies and 8 rosecomb. I lost all the buff silkies, all but one partridge silkie, and one rosecomb. After cracking the eggs, it looked like the buff eggs weren't fertilized (no bullseye), the partridge eggs never took off (they were fertilized though) and the rosecomb had a bloodring.

On my own stock, one wasn't fertilized ( a pen I had my doubts) and 1 had a bloodring.

So I am down to 20, but have 30 more I just received. Am I going to have room? ( it's a Hovabator) How much room between eggs do we need?

I havent gotten my bator yet

Its sapose to be here sometime monday i actually told my sis i coudnt babysit that day cause i had to stay and wait on ups

my homemade bator is doing pretty good i have 2 test eggs in it from some that cracked im tweeking temps.

I have 14 eggs that wii be 7 days old monday so i wish my bator would hurry up

I am also waiting on 18 eggs from sizz that i am hopeing come tuesday morning so I wont have to stagger, but at least I know I think i can use my home made one as a hatcher if i have to.

How are your eggs?
