candling questions

its day 7 for my eggs, what do i use to candle them? ive never done it before so i dont really know what to do, do you turn the lights off and can i use a flashlight to candle them? what exactly am i looking for, veins?

I'm fairly new but if you search "incubation stages" or "chick development" there are several good threads on here that will show you what to look for. I use a 145 lumen flashlight from Walmart (cost about 20 bucks). It works well for most eggs.

You can use a regular flashlight. But I like the smaller flashlights. Just hold the egg with the aircell up and shine the flashlight into the aircell. You will see like spider veins sort of. There is a good post on here somewhere showing the different stages.

Good luck, we need pics of the chicks when they arrive.

Oh and you have to do it in a really dark room. If you have dark color eggs it is more difficult to see inside.
