It seems some folks are able to candle the dark brown and green eggs. For those of you who can what type of light (lumens) are you using?

I haven't had trouble candling maran, welsummer eggs with a regular mag flashlight. Blue or green eggs are another story. For those eggs, I have a small LED mag light. I tried it the other day ( Day 7 ) on some of my blue eggs. I was able to see slightly better. The light is brighter, and more of a blue tinge then the regular mag light.

I think my DH got the mini mag lights at tractor supply. I'm not sure where he found the LED mag light, but it has helped with the blue eggs a little. They weren't all that expensive either. So, keep your eyes out for one of those in the stores.

Ameraucana eggs to me are just as easy as any average brown egg.

I don't have Welsummers, but my darkest Marans eggs (up to an 8 on the scale) aren't all that hard to candle. You just gotta look for a dark mass that takes up most of the egg, then around day 11-14, it clears a little and you can see the chick inside.

I used my dad's old slide projector to candle my Welsummer eggs. It worked very well at 12 days incubation.

After many practices, now I can candle marans eggs

At day 12-14, if you use LED light, you can see something moves inside. At around day 15-17, you will see massive dark thing is almost full.
I never candled blue ameraucana eggs yet, so I need more practice for them
