When is the earliest you can candle??? We are on day 3 with chick eggs???
Am just anxious to see if there is anything inside?
Thanks

If you haven't ever candled before, I would wait until day 10. It's hard for first time candlers to really tell what they are looking for before then.

If you have light eggs, you can candle on Day 3 and should be able to see the "spider" of early blood vessels developing. However, it is much easier to see at Day 7.

At day five you can see something...just keep in mind that the more times you take the eggs out of the bator and mess with them the greater risk you are placing them in of the accidental drop, cool down, humidity change, exposure to bacteria, etc...
The more you value the chicks you want to have the less you should touch. Day 10 and day 18 before lock down is usually when I find I get the best information from candling. Day ten is when I remove the clears, day 18 any quitters.
I admit though telling someone not to look at developing eggs is like giving a kid a pocket full of candy and telling them not to eat it.

Thanks
We will wait until day 7 or 8..... what should I see when we candle???
I am doing this with a class full of 2nd graders.
Thanks

I tried candling around day 3 and was not able to see much of anything. So I waited a few more days and was finally able to see development....and as of last night there is movement. So....depending on just how anxious you are, I would say wait a few more days. Cause once you DO see anything...it is SOOOO hard to resist wanting to do it each and every day. I've had to restrain myself from wanting to take another look ever since I saw them moving.
