Wild birds cannot get through the fence wire. We've got a fully enclosed run with hardware cloth stapled to a wooden frame, and there's bricks underneath the frame so nothing can dig a hole beneath it as well. Maybe a wild bird pooped into the water supply or something...?
No scabs on the comb/face/wattles -- skin on both hens looks super clear and healthy to me.
I'll definitely look into these treatments and thanks to both who recommended the copper sulfate. Do the other treatments get rid of communicability of the canker in the same way metronidazole does? I am concerned about adding new birds to the flock since I'm reading hens with canker are permanent carriers.
