Canning and Home preserving

Pics
You guys, I am SO TICKLED! I actually found a pressure canner in the basement among my late MIL's things. It's been down there all this time, I just never noticed it among all the other "treasures" down there ....

It says National Pressure Canning Co., Eau Claire, Wis. No. 7. I will replace the handles, pressure valve, gasket and all fittings before I use it. But I am excited that I will be able to can my chicken broth and can use it any time I want and won't have to wait for it to thaw!
:celebrate

:hugs Well I hope you DO and get to enjoy it all too.
Thanks. :hugs That's very sweet.

But honestly, I don't want to. My aunt is 96 and honestly, she can't do anything she loves, but her mind is in tact. That just means she knows what she can't do. She lives in a very nice care facility with 3 restaurants and lots of activities. She doesn't do any of the activities, and only goes down to eat once or twice a day. She occasionally tells me she is ready to go and doesn't know why she is still here. Now that is just sad, and I don't want to be that way. :old

OMG! I love this! It sounds like fun. Can you share the recipe or tell me where I can find it? :bow <didn't see a begging emoticon>

Oh yay! I just figured out how to access my album, so thanks! This is the book that contains the recipe. But SOMEWHERE in this thread, in the first few pages, is the actual recipe. My phone doesn't let me c&p links (very sad face!) But it shouldn't be too hard to find. Good luck, and, as cmom says, have fun! :frow

That's sad. :( I remember hearing about a facility where the guests could fold clothes. This simple chore gave them a sense of accomplishment, and it was something they did all their lives.

Well I can certainly understand it being very sad to be mentally there but physically unable to do anything. :(
To me that would be very depressing. :hugs

It is. They have outings, movies and a game room that always has a jigsaw puzzle going on. She could do these things, but doesn't.

Yes. To me too. She is the sweetest lady too. Probably doesn't weigh 100 lbs these days.

Anyway, I didn't mean to bring the conversation down!!! So let me just say, if we all live to 100, may we be able to walk, know where we are going and be happy to be alive!!! :love
