Canning and Home preserving

I have actually thought about canning water. Even the large plastic jugs would deteriorate over time. . :lau

There is a very smart lady over on the sister site Sufficient Self that cans water every time she is pressure canning something something and does not have enough jars to fill the canner. She will just fill however many jars of water that she needs to fill it up and run it as she usually would. That way she is not wasting energy by just canning water, or running a partially filled canner. Voila, she has potable water on the shelf to use if the power is out and the well is not working. She has a freeze drier, so having water on hand is even more important.

Sorry this is so late - but you guys have been chatty the last couple of days.

Online i have seen many of the people who can do this there are a couple of good reasons besides having potable water on the shelf. They recommend you not can less than three jars in a canner. By adding the balance in potable water Jars the volume in the canner is as if you were canning a whole load... Or the bare minimum of three if you want to test out a recipe.

Us? Chatty? Never! :lau That is a great idea about canning water! Hot bath or pressure? I'm ordering parts today to refurbish my MIL's old National pressure canner, can't wait to can some bone broth!

Its ok preserving food is part of our lives... Lives overlap. I am as guilty as the next for going off topic

Hey I found my sliver filled wire.... Squirrel!!!

and we still didn't eat the cranberry sauce I made for thanksgiving.... :thI have to cook seated in a chair... pull the pots down and set them on the oven door in order to stir and add ingredients.

Jumping up and getting something off the counter is a planning event... I have to be done with what I am doing at the time before I attempt to stand.

Oh well it will come.

You will get there. Time and patience....and following doctors orders of course. ;)

Your progress so far is impressive.
