My "new" last truck i bought in 2004 Dodge Cummins One ton... Five speed stick. It was a 95 and had 185 thousand miles on it. It now has 300 thousand... I will still have to haul hay and grain especially if I bring my mare home.I bought a new truck 21 years ago and expect it to be my last vehicle.
My Grandmother drove till she was 94 and the only reason she quit was because she broke her hip. I moved in with her when she was turning ninety. Got a good job in town and had run out of money living in the desert.I'm 66 and I sure hope I don't!!!![]()
Yep, sounds like you have the genetics, Deb. My DH's family is like that too, both grandmothers well over 100, and his grandma drove until she was 99. The women in my family don't fair so well.My Grandmother drove till she was 94 and the only reason she quit was because she broke her hip. I moved in with her when she was turning ninety. Got a good job in town and had run out of money living in the desert.
She only just passed away this year at the Glorious age of 103. So I was with her at least twelve solid years... Her sisters, she was one of eight, her sisters all lived well past their nineties. Except Ruth who dropped dead at 45 from a heart attack. Grandma was the youngest born in 1916... The oldest was a brother who was away to World War one when Grandma was born. His son is now a hundred years old.
Both sides of the family worked the land for a very long time.... Grandmas dad Grew pinto beans on a half section of land using Mules. Dads side of the family grew everything from Cotton to Oranges on their way from Florida to Orange county CA.
They both settled in Orange County and were involved with Citrus and Berries....
So Genetically I will be around for a very long time and still be able to function physically and Cognitively.
So here I am doing the usual .... Something new....

You will only be that way if you decide to be that way... Personally I prefer to be around people... Love to chat or just sit and listen. When I get to the point where i will need help I hope to bring in someone to live with me so I can stay in my own home till I pass.Thanks.That's very sweet.
But honestly, I don't want to. My aunt is 96 and honestly, she can't do anything she loves, but her mind is in tact. That just means she knows what she can't do. She lives in a very nice care facility with 3 restaurants and lots of activities. She doesn't do any of the activities, and only goes down to eat once or twice a day. She occasionally tells me she is ready to go and doesn't know why she is still here. Now that is just sad, and I don't want to be that way.![]()
Me too! Always been too scared to try, following this thread in hopes of learning something that will allay my fears. (Actually bought a pressure cooker from wally world once, but then found out it had to be pressure canner. Back to being scared.)I'm afraid of pressure canners. Stupid I know. Its an old, ingrained childhood fear I've never been able to shake off.![]()
