Last night my girls were attacked by the biggest raccoon I have ever seen in my life. My Americana (age 4) (not sure of her weight...) was badly injured all down the back of her neck before I was able to scare the BEAST away. I tried to grab her last night but I was unable to. In order to not traumatized her any further I decided to wait until morning.. I have been trying all day and I am still unable to catch her by hand or get her lured into an XL crate. She is not eat or drinking or pooping from what I've seen but I would like to flush her wound with saline and keep her crated in the house to give her a chance to heal.. I have made aspirin infused pediatlye (I saw suggested in another post) and have neosporin ready..

Any suggestions on how I can catch her she's usually so friendly I have no clue what to do I am heartbroken that she is so hurt and afraid.

That's what I ended up doing. I was just panicked because of her injury she has no skin on the back of her neck I'm gonna keep her crated for a while don't know what else to do. Thanks for replying.

So sorry about this attack. Great job crating her. She will need to be observed. Make sure she is warm and has access to fluid. Flush the wound with sterile saline. Can you tell how deep the wound is? Is just the skin torn of? I would apply antibiotic ointment or manuka honey. Watch for signs of infection, as she may require antibiotics.
Can you also look her over for other injuries? If the neck is the only injury andyou are able to care for her, she will likely fully recover. Please keep us posted.

It's just the skin but quit a bit of it. She has no other injurys thank goodness. I have pans of food, scratch, and water but she isn't interested in any of it.. I can't afford to take her to a vet so hopefully it doesn't come to that. No signs of infection so far and her breathing is normal. She is in the bathroom with dim lighting.. Not sure what else I can do

Her neck is probably very sore. Can you lift a little cup of water to her head level and see if she’ll sip from it? Keeping her hydrated will be important. If you put drops of water on the side of her beak, she may instinctively swallow.
As far as wound care, have you been able to flush it with saline at all? There have been some remarkable recoveries from predator attacks documented on these forums. I think she will be OK if you can care for her properly. We’re all rooting for both of you!

So sorry this happened! Is an electric fence an option? I have one and it works beautifully. Only one ground predator attack and it was because a hen got out, and one hawk attack. But thanks to my fabulous rooster and the electric fence, no other predator deaths.
