This EE was given to me in a batch of freezer camp roosters. I get them about 10 weeks old and grow them out for my freezer. Occasionally I get a pullet mixed in and she goes in the laying pen. This is the first one that has had me stumped.

What makes me think its a pullet:
- pale comb
- no wattles
- smaller than the other roosters the same age
- SUPER sweet
- No obvious saddle feathers....I looked under these feathers for shiny ones and couldn't find any.(the hackle feathers don't seem to be pointy but its hard to tell because of the two colors)
- Finally, my big Black Australorp roo didn't try to kill it.(he isn't tolerant of young roosters)

What makes me think its a roo:
- RED shoulders
- The other roosters haven't jumped on it yet.

This youngster doesn't chest bump and play fight like the other roosters but is def head honcho. The other roos back off the food when this little one decides it wants to eat.

So what do the experts say.......????

With the other boys the same age:

Boooyyyy look at the size of those FEEET!!! The darker brick red on the shoulders is a giveaway, too.

Yup a rooster.. My EE hens have huge feet also. But his guy has is hackles growing in already.
Bet he will look like Dandy.

I see a boy, based on the large feet and the hackles. If he's an EE, that could be why he has the smaller comb.

Rooster. He's just not as mature, plus ee roos often don't get much in the way of wattles, and the pea combs can stay pretty small.
