My husband and kids can eat them no problem, and i dont mind the harvesting. I just camt stomach themIt’s obvious you loved and respected those birds.First time chick-to-table can be tough. Second, third, etc too. It does get easier though. And the BYC community is always here for you. But like @LaFleche says, don’t force yourself into it if you’re not okay yet with eating what you’ve raised.
This is what my crazy family does: For us, eating a bird we raised is a little celebration of its life and the gift it gave us — sometimes complete with sparkling cider toast and a fancy dessert if it was a really special birdie. If the bird had any funny moments or personality quirks (most do, right?), we might even share those over dinner. I hope it doesn’t sound too weird, but it helps us finalize and acknowledge that what was once an animal at our home is now a delicious dinner.
They all end up cute in an ugly sorta way lolRaise a breed/color that you find ugly.
I see this is a bit old, but there's nothing wrong with going vegetarian for a while or at least from chicken. (I am not a vegetarian myself) but as long as someone is eating the chicken, you don't have to.
I don't feel bad eating my chickens, but when the time comes I wonder if I'll end up giving up on steak and beef because I do like my cows and they're so sweet and cute. The goats on the other hand, I'm happy eating goat yum
We are getting goats in the spring for meat and milk... I am worried i will fall in love with them too![]()
If he does the killing, i think i can do the rest. I just talked my renter into helping me do 10 turkeys we acquired yesterday too lolJust get your husband to do the butchering!
