Cant eat my Chickens!!

It’s obvious you loved and respected those birds. :hugs First time chick-to-table can be tough. Second, third, etc too. It does get easier though. And the BYC community is always here for you. But like @LaFleche says, don’t force yourself into it if you’re not okay yet with eating what you’ve raised.

This is what my crazy family does: For us, eating a bird we raised is a little celebration of its life and the gift it gave us — sometimes complete with sparkling cider toast and a fancy dessert if it was a really special birdie. If the bird had any funny moments or personality quirks (most do, right?), we might even share those over dinner. I hope it doesn’t sound too weird, but it helps us finalize and acknowledge that what was once an animal at our home is now a delicious dinner.

My husband and kids can eat them no problem, and i dont mind the harvesting. I just camt stomach them :(. I appreciate the support! If push comes to shove, i can always just make em for my family and i can eat a pizza lol

I see this is a bit old, but there's nothing wrong with going vegetarian for a while or at least from chicken. (I am not a vegetarian myself) but as long as someone is eating the chicken, you don't have to.

I don't feel bad eating my chickens, but when the time comes I wonder if I'll end up giving up on steak and beef because I do like my cows and they're so sweet and cute. The goats on the other hand, I'm happy eating goat yum

We are getting goats in the spring for meat and milk... I am worried i will fall in love with them too 😭😭😂

You are either a chicken cuddler or a farmer. You have to determine which you want to be and treat them as such. My daughter wanted to be both and found when you try the first the second becomes difficult.

If you want to "eat" more of them, they need to be viewed as a resource and not a pet. You can still care for and provide a quality life for your animals and them be in the food cycle.

I don't enjoy it, but I like knowing where my food comes from. I have zero trust in supermarket meat. Drive past a few chicken farms raising the meat you buy and your rooster for 18 - 20 weeks have a much better life than they ones you are buying.

I have two sets. My does are pets and for producing more food. The bucks are all food except the one that is breeding them. The bucks aren’t hard to not get attached 😂 once they mature it’s like an annoying harassing person who you can’t wait to get away from your girls. Not sure if there’s a difference in taste between males and females.
