Can't even give them away!!!!!!!

My husband told me to tell you he will take them to the Nashville Rescuse Mission for you if you like. They have been on the new and need lots of help.

20 dozen eggs! Wow!
How many layers do you have?

I could sell a bunch here, I only have 6 pullets- two recently started laying,, so I only get 1-2 eggs a day. Not enough for our family of 5..
My friends, family and co-workers are all asking me if I have extras! I only have 1/4 acre or I'd get a bunch more hens!

I know the feeling! It seems folks around here would rather pay for the junk eggs at the grocery store than drive a little out of their way to get eggs that really are good for them (and often lower priced than the "fancy" eggs at the store). I've had 20+ dozen in my fridge in the past, now I just don't collect as often and/or throw away any that would need cleaning. I've got about 6-8 dozen on the counter, another 3-5 in various receptacles around the farm, all waiting to be thrown out cause my daughter and I can't eat them all.

I've gotten a few responses from an ad in Craigslist, but no sales yet. I also had a guy call who's in the process of trying to start up a new CSA and wanted to be able to include eggs. If you send me your contact info I can pass it along to him in case he wants more than one supplier. I have no idea when the project would actually get launched though.

I usually don't have any left over eggs to sell for eating eggs. The other week I had a couple dozen though. It had been raining and they were muddy, some were lighter colored, just a few of this and that. Not really the kind of a dozen anyone would line up and pay cash for to hatch. I was leaving my house and it was raining a little bit and I saw a guy riding a bicycle up the hill (long hill) and he had a milk crate strapped to the front with groceries in it. I gave him the two dozens and told him to have a nice day. Well, a couple days ago, who comes apounding on my front door. Wants more eggs. He was driving a very nice SUV this time, LOL I thought he was poor... how funny. Anyhow, he peeled off $3/dozen and was happy to get them. Then he helped himself to four avocados off the tree in my driveway... ahem. Those are worth as much as the eggs, you dummy! I gave him some fresh limes to go with them and said have a nice day.

I have a surplus also. At Christmastime I couldn't keep chicken ($2) and duck ($3) eating eggs in stock and had people stopping all the time for eggs. I was only getting around 8-10 eggs a day. Now I'm getting 20-25 a day!!! And the customers are not rushing to get them. I have twice had to email out an egg sale, and let them go for $1.50. That seems to get customers' attention for a while.

Our food bank said they'd gladly take my extras, but I'm selfish and want to make feed money from them.

I have now gotten my breeds divided out, so hopefully more eggs will go into hatching than eating for a few months.

ETA: Our feed store said she'd take eggs to resell, but she can't pay me more than $1 each dozen because she can barely get people to pay $1.50 each.

I sell them for a dollar a dozen, at a lost, just to get rid of them. There are two people are re-selling them.

I tried to give them away on FreeCycle with no takers, trying to build a customer base with free samples.

I didn't read all the posts, but could you donate them to a food pantry and get a donation reciept for taxes?

or maybe barter them for something you need?

Hello!

I give away half dozen cartons to people for free, and that has brought me alot of customers. It's funny how some city types are afraid to purchase eggs that aren't from a store. One friend of mine wouldn't use her eggs...she just wasted them. (I just saw the carton in half). And of course family gets free eggs all the time.

SilkieTime - We are in Fairview, so not far from you. My in-laws go to church in Joelton when they aren't in FL. They used to own property in Joelton years ago.

I currently have 7 LF & 3 bantam's that are laying. Just bought 12 babies and getting at least 12 more in a couple of weeks. I bring eggs to work and try to give them away and sometimes get takers, sometimes not. I just took 4 doz. to the guys at the glass shop next door to my work and one of the guys gave me $5 for the ones he took. I hate to see them go to waste and sometimes just scramble them for my flock.

The company I work for provides medicines for the Nashville Rescue Mission. I'd be glad to donate my extras to them, is there anyone in particular I should contact. Don't have to have a license or anything do I?
