cant help but post......I am so excited!!!

MPC isn't taking orders yet. I've had my order prepped and saved in their system since November, and I still can't place it until February, even without a killjoy parental unit stifling my activities.

Place the order now and if they won't let you have it ready for Feb 1st at 12:00AM!

If I cant get some babies, I am going to have to get several month old birds from a local farm.....but I would really rather have the tiny fuzzballs instead!
And I still have 11 days till february 1st. If they are all sold out, any other places to get babies? Other than the feed store, which is my ABSOLUTE LAST CHOICE as they treat the babies so awfully!

Use the time to start saving $ for your new coop... Better yet, start building NOW.
We can't get chicks until April here. Too cold to ship.
Have fun!

I have a nice sized coop already. I also have silkies and an ameraucana hen. My mom just wants more layers.

Welcome to my world honey! I started plans for chickens in NOVEMBER!! Nov & Dec weren't too bad since the holidays kept me occupied, but now I'm itching. And with the spare time the research has expanded. Poor hubby is getting a little scared... he saw the library books about raising goats, pigs, waterfowl... For him, warm (coop building) weather can't get her soon enough... I think he figures once I've got four chickens then I'll be satisfied and that'll be that...

I have made a point to make sure he didn't notice the topics titles that include the word addiction, I just had to get one more, etc...

Sounds like you are getting everything ready

Absolutely use pine shavings. You can put newspaper under the shavings to help with clean up but I would stay away from the hay for bedding. You can use an ice cube tray as a feeder but you might get a lot of waste of feed if they scratch it out.
Can't wait to see pics of the fuzzy butts when you get them

Thanks for the advice! Too bad the hatchery is in Connecticut. Seems really far from Vail arizona......Maybe I should try feed store birds

BTW: I think My Pet Chicken Drop ships.

In other words they might pay Privett in New Mexico or Ideal in Texas to ship you the chicks you order from them.
