Can't stablize temperature

I used 1.5 inch lengths of hard plastic tubing to space out the stat.....i read about somebody using pieces of a Bic pen casing (which I thought was pretty clever)

i think if you've already drilled holes in the stat casing, I'd just put it wherever it fits best. Closer to the bulbs is probably better, but it sounds like you've got right! Now its just a few hours of fine tuning the temp setting on the thermostat.

I hadn't heard about spacing the thermo away from the wall - mine is directly on the wall of my bator between the two light bulbs. It turns on runs up 2 degrees turns off cools 2 degrees etc. That seems OK from what I've read.
