If you where to caponize a tom, would it make a difference like it does in chickens?
If yes, what age?
Are they same on the inside (gonad part) as chickens?
Is it easy to sex turkey poults?

I've been reading up on turkeys becuase I plan to get some hatching eggs soon, I was talking about it with my mom and she wanted to know if you could caponize a turkey like you can a chicken.

Apart from the fact that caponizing is agonizing and extremely painful to the animal and often deadly if not done by a skilled hand, why would you want to caponize a tom? I would suggest a double breasted variety if you plan on growing them for meat. They get plenty big...

I was wondering the same thing? Did you ever give it a try?

I have some extra male midget white poults. I was thinking I'd try my hand at caponizing on some cockrels I'll be processing soon, then move on to live birds - hopefully some of which will be toms. Just wanted to know if anyone else has ever done it or if anyone does it regularly and what the results are.
