They do it to cows, pigs and many other animals for the same reasons. So, thanks for your opinion but. Instead of posting for the sake of posting please ignore threads that you find offensive. Unless there is a poll or posters are asking for input, don't share your thoughts. This is a cruel and inhumane procedure.
The birds are operated on without any anesthetic and by unqualified people. Just read the above poste to see that there are losses also.
If you were caught doing this to a dog or cat then you would face legal proceedings.
I hope this caponizing will become illegal in the future.
I am not 'trying to hide knowledge'. In fact I am sharing the knowledge that this procedure is as best very painful and stressful for the chicken, and at worst cruel and inhumane, often resulting in the slow death of the bird.Good for you Smokey. This is an educational forum and trying to hide knowledge from others is shameful. For anyone willing to make the trip to SC I will be be happy to teach the method I use, just PM me or with any other questions.

Actually Jak you did more than suggest that in inflicted pain. Your original post did not state any personal knowledge of the procedure. It stated an opinion that include you hope this was made against the law. We on the meat forum frequently are attacked by those who come from veggie land and let us know eating chicken is unthinkable. Your original post was much like that. It went beyond I've done this and some birds suffer it talked about how if it were a dog or a cat it would be illegal. Your opinion has now been expressed. I'm sure if anyone has questions they will ask you. Beyond that please understand and respect that this is a thread the OP started not asking if it should be legal or not but for experience. Those who have for the most part responded especially McButterpants are offer to share their experience.I am not 'trying to hide knowledge'. The OP is very welcome to note this advise or not. Its up to them.
To SmokinChick, I do not find this threat offensive in the least. The OP asked a question about if anyone had experience about this procedure and I do. I would never do it again to any on my birds after seeing the problems and suffering it resulted in for some of mine (far be it a small minority). Telling me to not share my thoughts is rather rood and you might take the same advise and not reply to posts that you find offensive (including the one I made that was not concerning you or addressing you).
Well said! FYI - the birds seem to experience very little discomfort - I'm reasonably certain less than say cutting spurs with a nail clipper or some other inappropriate tool, not that is will matter to anyone who has already made up their mind regarding the procedure. Anyone with questions feel free to PM me anytime and I'll post video of the next batch I do here as well.Actually Jak you did more than suggest that in inflicted pain. I don't see anything wrong with eating meat and I am not vegetarian. I just try to make sure all the animals I eat are raised in humane condition, and I avoid factory farmed animals. I did not say anything about eating meat was wrong.Actually Jak you did more than suggest that in inflicted pain. Your original post did not state any personal knowledge of the procedure.
