Well this is my second go around with Capons, they are JG.
I started with 12, 1 started having fits @ 4 weeks of age and didn't last long, 4 didn't pull thru and 1 just up and died 1 1/2 weeks after. I am keeping close eye on these as 1 of them I could not find my targets and just put it back...time will tell on that one.
The Coop I built with junque(junk) I had lying around from other jobs and from friends scrap piles. I think I got somewhere around 250 and 300 in it and that is the wood and feed and waterer.
Comments and thought would be nice as I am always looking to improve.

Slow grown is what I want, looking to grow these for Thanksgiving and Christmas on 14% protein grow rations and allow them out in the yard to find what ever they can find. 5 weeks before I will start to increase the protein and the last 3 weeks they will be at 80% corn to fatten up, everything I have read said this is the way to go.
These hatched on April 1st at Meyer Hatchery, they are only a 30 minute drive for me.

They have gotten big and I am attempting to fatten them up....sorry I did not get back to you sooner on this as it is hunting season and I am very busy chasin furry woodland creatures...I will try and get you a picture and weigh one

Well I went out and got my Christmas capon and butchered it and is now resting in the frig.
Live weight was 10 lbs. on the money and ending weight at just under 8 lbs. I have also picked up another kit for 15 bucks off of craigslist, I feel I will be happier with this kit.

These are the last 2 I have
.
New to me kit.

I'm thinking of getting into capons myself. I have a New Hampshire roo over some Delawares for sex links. So this seems to be a better alternative than what hatcheries do to the males. Problem is, I know how these sex links like to eat haha, hopefully I can find a happy medium. Also, these sexlinks mature fast.

WAY TO GO!!!!!!

I weighed mine last week and he was 9 pounds.....a gain of 3/4 pounds in 4 weeks. I am hoping for a 10 pounder myself. Mine hatched May 24 and are Black Copper Marans/Lavender Orpington crosses

The JG's are bigger boned, so I am curious how he appears fleshwise. PLEASE make a picture before you dig in!!
