Car ppl: Hubby's trying to do something dumb....(I think)

That's what I say....this is one of those things where the man of the house does not need to learn this one the hard way....

Once the brake pads are removed there should be enough clearance on most vehicles to just hammer them out without having to drop the rear end or removing the axle.

Hmmm, I'm gonna have to go over there and look at it myself, then....He had our brother in law go with him to look (BIL works at O' Reilly's and works on vehicles) and claims that dropping the rear end/axle whatever is necessary, but it really makes me wonder...most of the time I'm more apt to believe what ppl on here say rather than the 'experts'.....and I DO NOT want my hubby dead from this (maybe in another 20 years I'll think differently, but not yet)

Are there any special tools required to do this???

What kind of truck is this?

Since "on most vehicles" it shouldn't need to drop the rear end, I was just wondering what type of truck this was and why it would need to be "dropped". It could just be an excuse from the mechanics to charge extra, when they know they could probably just remove the brake pads..

they may have 7 studs, I don't know. Hubby is just telling me stuff over the phone, and he doesn't pay attention to details.

So what does that mean??? Does that mean the whole thing that the wheel attaches to has to be removed?? Cause that's what it sounds like to me!!! (I've never done this, I can't get a visual!)
