We are going out of town in 2 days and today a roaming dog got one of my girls. She's the smart one who continues to get out of the fenced ranging area the others always stay in. Our dog caught the invader and scared the poop out of him and he let her go. She has an area the size of my hand on both sides of her back that have the feathers pulled out. She seems to only have one place where the skin is broken about the size of a nickel. I washed her good with warm water, dried her, then put bacitracin all over her and gooped the broken skin good. Put her in a box in quiet room with water, yougert, small piece of wheat bread and a few nuggetts. I've read the post on how to care for her and intend to do such until I have to leave. My question is what do I do with her while I'm gone? I have a caretaker coming to care for my animals several times a day and intend to keep the other hens in their run the entire time I'm gone. Do I put her back in with them and instruct the caretaker to wash and apply the ointment each day and hope the others don't peck her? Do I leave her isolated inside my house? I'll be gone for 5 days.

Thanks in advance!

I would probably leav her isolated in the house .. But if that isnt an option I would spray her good with bluekote before putting her back out... Good luck

Thanks so much! I', going to get some now.
I still don't know what i'll do. My husband probably won't go with keeping her inside.
She's doing pretty well. She's eating LOTS, drinking and when I leave a light on where she is she wants to get up as high as she can, (this isn't good for us) so I keep it dark with a little light coming in from the cracked door. THe one place where the skin is pulled off was now bleeding a little around the edges. I went to check her and it seemed her head was back in that areas. Will she try to groom herself or will she actually pick at her own sore?
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP !!!
