Carnation comb or side sprigs?

Hi guys, is this a carnation comb or side sprigs?

It's in a barnyard mix cockerel, so unfortunately I do not know the possible breeds in the lineage.

This photo was taken 2 weeks ago, he was 9 weeks old at the time, he looks slightly different now. He has less black on his hackle feathers, some saddle feathers have grown in and the white tipped feathers are no longer present, however, most of the feathers on his chest have black tips.

Is the carnation comb recessive or dominant?

I see mottling on him so I think he's split for mottling and I'd like to breed him with one of my mottled hens.

I do not know the answer about the comb. Let me compare him to photos of other chicken breeds and I will tell you what he looks like.
