Carpenter ants

Omg. Found carpenter ants tonight along the fence to my chicken coop like hundreds of them! The coop is too close to the house for comfort. How can I SAFELY get rid of them without hurting my ladies?!

I don’t know about carpenter ants but if I see ants in my house I doused them with vinegar. And that kills them.I know I use DE in my garden to get rid of them. You could use that just make sure the chickens don’t mess with it
