Cascade Layer Poultry Feed, Organic...Anyone use?UPDATED: Got my feed!

Competition means that two (or more) parties have a similar (or same) product and are offering that product in the same market. You are marketing your product at Naomi's ("My husband and I now manufacture Pig and Poultry feed...We are just getting started and distribute the feed through "Naomi's Organic Farm Supply" in Portland, Oregon") which is just across the bridge from Urban Farm store, both in Portland, which sells the Magill.

You are in competition with Magill. It can be a friendly or acrimonious competition; your choice.

Ya' know - I might have considered your food before these posts. Jest sayin'. Good luck in your endeavors.

I never heard of this place and I've done quite a bit of search in the area, LOL. Naomi's need to do some serious SEO... too bad for them because they have a nice website.

This is OT from the OP..heheh..
I called Concentrates NW and here is what I have learned. The price on the 50# is 30.00 for the layer feed. I also learned that if you reside in the city of Portland you can ONLY purchase Magill (Cascade) feed at the Urban Farm Store. It is the same price 50# /30.00. If you are outside the city if Portland you are welcome to purchase at Concentrates NW. Apparently, Magill has an exclusive deal with Urban Farm Store. I'm not so pleased about this news, but it is a common practice in the feed industry according to the Concentrates NW fella. Is this true? Why can you only buy feed in SE Portland? The urban farms are in NE Portland!

CarpeDiHen- Thanks for the info on Azure and pricing. I might still try them out. I'll be interested to hear how you like the new feed.

Qbarfarm- Regardless of your attitude on this board, if it's good feed, get it into north/northeast Portland and I for one will try it. I'd be happy to take a sample off your hands. Sounds like you have done your homework anyway. I like Magill, but I can take or leave the Urban Farm Store, and Naomi's is even farther for me. I assume wheat middlings are not in the ingredients. Be interested to know what all is...

The organizer of the Azure drop shipment for my town was awesome. Drove right up and the orders were labeled by name. Loaded up and I was done!

Gave the chickens a bowl of the Cascade feed and they dove right in. I am going to mix it 50/50 for a week, then be done with the

I have had some funny eggs and I'm glad to get everyone on Calcium (was free feeding oyster shells) now that the six are all at the age that they can eat Layer feed.

Other good news, the Polish I was worried was a roo layed an egg this week! Now I have 5 pullets and only one roo.

Already had to re-home two roos... The roo left is an EE and he is turning into EYE CANDY (hope he stays sweet)!

All is well and I wish you all well. Good luck with your pursuit of the best feed you can find in your area! We are all looking for the same thing here and it is GOOD!

Thanks for coming back and reporting. From what my friend had told me, I knew your flock would love it.

I feel the same way. I tried to buy organic locally and they were infested w/ bugs and I did not want to deal with it since I did not even have the chicks yet. I did end up w/ Purina as the starter. At the end of the month, I will put the order in with Azure Standard for the starter/grower and I will most likely keep them on it. It will be very convenient for me to get it at the drop off point so it will be good.

I LOVE your German Shepherd in your Avatar. I have 4 gs, 3 boys and 1 White German Shepherd female. They are the best. One of my males loves the toy tires, he even goes to bed with it.

Take Care!

Carpe DiHen: I'm starting to notice the girls stool is firmer lately, which is a good thing. I'm wondering if you're seeing similar results on Cascade?

Nancy, you have a tire lover GSD too?! I just love my avitar, Dasher. He is nine now and still ready for anything. I have always had shepherds, but Dasher is THE BEST. He is high drive all E. German lines, but sooo smart and sweet. Even though he is high drive, he adopts and protects anything I bring home. In my avitar picture, he is guarding the bunny, Milli. He always picks up his tire before he touches noses with Milli. He has adopted the chickens too. He comes in a panic if he hears a funny noice near the run. He raised my two kittens and when they were only 5 weeks old, he let them sleep with him and "nurse" on his chest. And, I've very happy my big standard poodele,Donner, still has his ears!

Wow, you have four shepherds? Oh my. They must keep you very busy. Oh well, I could talk about shepherds forever, but I better give it a rest!

I'm considering switching over to the Magill Cascade Layer feed because of the ingredients. However, I have not had to add calcium or scratch of any kind with my current organic feed. Would I need to with the Cascade feed? Also, a friend of mind has switched to Cascade and is mixing it with 1/3 whole barley and 1/3 whole oats to extend it. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks,
Amy
