Cast Iron Skillets

Just putting in my two cents here. I never use oil, only shortening, on my iron skillets. I've found that oil tends to become sticky.
Yes, oil does become sticky. I use shortening the first time I season them, but after that I cook bacon and while the bacon is cooking it seems to season them a second time. But if I don't like the way the skillet is cooking, I'll season a third time with shortening and they'll be good to go. I usually only have to season 3 times with my newer ones, the ones that I got from a store. The biggest skillet that I have, is from a yard sale, paid $4 for it. Its 12inches and completely smooth on the inside, its VERY old. I love that one, I don't even really need to season it. It doesn't get rusty, it also never seems to let anything stick to it. Thank you Stumpy, for your two cents.
