Today my favorite pullet suffered a cat attack. I've looked her over and there are some puncture wounds on her neck they aren't bleeding heavily, but they are bruised. Additionally she has a gash on her thigh. I treated it with antiseptic, is there anything else I should do like skin glue or something?

I'm pretty certain the bigger concern or her neck wounds.

She's moving around gingerly on the leg and pooping normally. She starting to try and eat some grass as well.

I would get some Vetericyn wound spray from your local feed store to use daily. Or you can clean it with peroxide (use only once since it can delay wound healing,) betadine and water, or chlorhexidene(Hibiclens) for initial wound cleaning. Neosporin triple antibiotic ointment is good to use on the wounds until they heal. The neck wounds could possibly get infected or abscess, so look for swelling or redness in the next couple of days. I would not glue or stitch a dirty wound, but let it heal from inside out. I hope she recovers without problems.

I'm treating her for shock right now my wrapping her in a towel and keeping her warm with me. She seems to be dozing. The leg wound wasn't serious, since it didn't even tear the muscle membrane ...just the skin. I'm just so worried about her!

Unusual to hear about cat attacks on Chickens. Im just curious.....was it a stray?

No, unfortunately it was my own cat who slipped out the door. He's a stone cold killer, which is why we don't ever let him out. He would decimate the local song bird population.

She seems to be doing better now. Her leg still hurting her, but she got too warm in the towel, so I take it that she isn't in shock. She's back in the coop bedded down for the night with the rest, I'm going to get her out first light so that the rest are hustling her too much. She doesn't have any wounds that are visible to the other chickens, so they won't be picking her. She drank a good bit, and had a bite to eat. It's been a few hours so I think she'll be alright as long as I take care of the infection aspect. I really hope there's not a nasty surprise waiting for me in the morning. :fl

Oh no. Bad kitty! I'm glad she's doing better than first expected. How is she this morning?

She's barely limping, moving slow, and mostly laying in the sun. I'll be sad if her personality is forever changed.she was the most people oriented.
