Cat nip for chicks..........

Our chicks are now over 2 weeks old and I wanted to get them a little treat at the pet store today. So I heard they enjoy meal worms and decided to pick up a small container of them... just in case they didn't like them. WELL.... it was seriously like watching a cat on cat nip. They went CRAZY!!!! It was SO funny. One would pick a worm up and run around the brooder, chirping its' little head off with a worm sticking out of its mouth. Then it would find a quiet spot and swallow the worm. Then another would find one and do the same thing. Before I knew it everyone was running around the brooder like a chicken with its' head cut off (I know.... really BAD joke). It made my night watching them go crazy over these little worms. It'll have to become a weekly treat for them. Just wanted to share the joy I got from them today

we did a little yogurt this afternoon and they seemed to enjoy that a lot too... Next week we'll try CRICKETS

Mine are currently gaga for cherry tomatoes. They grab one and then play keep away. It's hysterical.

I know exactly what you mean. I first bought the smallest container of mealworms at the feed store, just to see.... Oh WOW. ROFLMAO.

Now I buy the container with 300 meal worms in them. (I do have 9 grown up chickens, too, so I don't "over-treat" the chicks in the brooder. The chicks will get meal worms about twice a week.)

I found that the big chickens like grapes, and shredded mozzarella cheese. I toss the grapes, but let the girls eat the cheese out of my hand.

Now that my chicks (and two ducklings) are a bit over two weeks old, I'm going to give them some shredded cheese, too.

Try not to let them for real eat cat nip. I have a nice plant by my garden and last a few of my chickens got into it and it made them high I think and not even a good high, They were crazy for a couple hours, so now there is a small fence around it.
