I have a very old cat with bowl problems. He's been stocked up for a few days, and finally exploded last night in a very stinky mess that we don't talk about. Worse news is that it was where I had set my hydrometer and thermometer for a few minutes. I wasn't able to save either.
Luckily I was smart enough to set up some I've had hanging around for my lizard as a back up since my new one isn't due to arrive until Tuesday. Eggs weren't supposed to be here until Monday anyway due to shipping issues. Until I came home and the mailman was pulling them out of his truck.
So, uh, SOS help. I know nothing about checking if they're set right. I know the ones before were, since they came with my lizard and the guy set them up for me. I put a small lid in a ziplock bag with salt and a little water (Like I've read to do) and left it overnight. My reading is coming back as 78ish. Is that right? (Picture included)
Edit: Pretty sure I sorted out the humidity! So much reading and youtube videos. Next is to check my heat. I think it's ten degrees off!
I've yet to do the temp checking. Should I fill a cup with ice and a little water, or a lot of water? And then how long to let it melt? How should I put it in to check the temps?
Also... The incubator has been unplugged since last night. Does it have to warm up for 24 hours before I tuck the eggs in? I unplugged it to move it and forgot to put it back in in preparation for eggs.
Bonus question. The eggs were collected last Sunday, making them nearly a week old. Should I still let them settle overnight or should I put them straight in to warm? They're going to have to wait until I get the stuff sorted, at least. I can't even candle them yet since my cat ruined THAT as well. (Love you too, Clyde)
