my girls are 11yrs old no health issues always been indoors at its below freezing everyday now:-(

What IS it about baskets of clean laundry??? Mine do the same thing. In fact, I never know where I'll find cat pee. There is a product called Catscat which is squares of plastic mesh with little spikes sticking up. You put them around the base of your plant on the soil, and the cats don't go there anymore. I just keep the laundry in a room with a closed door. Mine will pee in the newspaper recycling box and on other stacks of paper. Just keeping everything cleaned up is the only answer. I hate to tell you all the places they've peed! They are indoor cats--seven of them (yikes)! I was a sucker and took every unwanted kitten for a while. Finally have called a halt to it, although I still love kittens. I realize I can't save them all. I live near a highway, or they would be outside cats by now. Still thinking of building an outdoor pen for them at some point.

Good luck with your potted plant. I will try to post a picture of the catscat things.

You might be able to salvage the plant if she only did it once, but chances are it's been more than once. You will have to repot to get rid of the smell. Just had to do that ourselves. We had a cat several years ago that would do that (put her down when she was 18) and our current cats just started doing it (they are 6,7) My husband took the base off of a broken planter and made a plastic "tree ring" for the one plant using his jig saw thingie. The other one we had to repot and then I put hardware cloth over the top and then a decrative rock to hold it down. I don't think that tree is going to make it. My puppies teethed on the trunk along with the cat peeing in it. The hardware cloth does work to keep the cats away though!

I have 8 litter boxes, scooped twice daily. They have a whole room (extra bedroom) for the "litter box room". No other furniture in there. Yes, I know I should put litter boxes in different rooms, but that is just not possible right now. It definitely is territorial, as they can see neighbors' outdoor cats in our yard, and then pee on the window, etc. They are gradually losing access to the whole house because of this. My bedroom is now a "cat free zone", as is the family room and laundry room at the other end of the house. The hall bathroom door is kept closed all the time, as they have peed in there so much it has gone into the floor boards. I am going to rip out that floor this spring, replace the subfloor, put ceramic tile down and seal all the edges with caulk.

They are at their worst when I am out of town--I don't know whether this is that "guide her home" thing or not. When I'm gone, they pee in places that they never do when I'm home.

I really am at my wit's end, but do not have the heart to just take them out and have them killed! One of the problems is that one of the cats is brain damaged (cerebellar hypoplasia) and has difficulty walking, and is bullied by the others. He's not the worst offender, however!

Sorry Citygirl! I didn't mean to hijack your thread, but as you can see, this is a subject of great concern to me!

Seriously, the Catscat mats DO work! You can cut them with scissors to fit the pot, and that's just about the only place my cats DON'T pee! You can buy them at gardeners supply stores online.

This could definitley be a sign she has developed a bladder infection. We had a cat begin to pee on the bathroom rug a few years ago in spite of a clean cat box. It proved to be a UTI. If the behavior is new for your cat, it might be wise to have her checked out. JMHO.
