Catnip

I going to try to plant catnip near my chicken run . I just wondering if it attracts cats (don't have a outside cat of my own) could it help keep rodents under control. I have no problems at this time,just thinking if cats are around would equal less rodents . just wonder what others think of this idea

Cats can be a danger to chickens too.

Cats are a must here for rodent control. I personally don't see how country folk get along without them! I'm not sure the catnip will actually draw cats in or not. After your catnip blooms and seeds it generally will come up in other places; not always where you originally plant it. If you are in need of cats for rodent control, check with your local pet shelter. Some have specific barn cat programs.
