I was never really a dog person, but my Beagles take care of the girls if there are any predators around. They have run off a couple of foxes and really take note when the chickens do their 'predator growl'. I have to admit Clyde does drive me bonkers with his barking sometimes, but that's only 'cos there's someone coming, or he's bored. I try to keep them both exercised enough that they don't become bored.
The chickens tolerate the cats too. Max & Ginger go mousing in the barn & in the coop and have never bothered the chickens at all............one big happy family!
