Cattle panel

Your CP is the heavy duty panels. I have a few of the older panels and I bought 6 new panels last year from TSC and they aren't nearly as heavy duty as the old panels.

We use em to secure the escape points on the pig wire pens where people want to squeeze UNDER. Since we tend to shift and shuffle as need be, we don't cut them down. Since we don't cut them down, they are very heavy and awkward. Since I don't know when I'm going to have to patch a fence gap, they're on endless orbit. It would have to be a really good cause.

I just don't love them the way I do pig wire.

Totally a cattle panel freak as well... I built a small shelter for my sheep using cattle panels. I bent them over for the room and put a tarp on them. Made a trellis with one and I have also found that it makes a great drag... and gates are easier to make because the cattle panel will hold the shape of a simple frame with out sagging. You need bolt cutters to cut out a section to use for the gate... Love them

I asked about delivering CPs at my local farm store, Southern States, the other day. The lady was like, "Sure, and probably for free, if your order is big enough!" So I'm going to get at least 15 of those puppies and have them delivered! I'm going to use some for my goats I'm getting in the spring, a greenhouse, and probably a goat shelter. I figure I'll get enough to keep on hand. LG, you suggested asking about delivery months ago, but I keep forgetting to ask! I'm stoked!

LG, you sure kept this gem of a thread well hidden! I just stumbled on it on the home page this morning! I am a huge proponent of cattle panels, as you know! For those of you who don't, know me as well as LG does, my run is made of cattle panels. Easy to put up and work with even for two people in their 60s with some disability issues. Easy to work in - nice and tall. Easy to expand - just take the end off, add two more fence posts and arch a panel between them then put the end back on. Withstands extreme winds (how about a wind gust of 90 mph during last week's snow storm?) and our snow loads. Easy to cover in summer with landscape fabric for shade and rain run-off and clear mesh tarps in winter. Yep, win win!

I also use them as trellises in the garden. Got one close to the back of the house where my trumpet vine for the hummers is finally taking off. Got a couple arched between fence posts and our grapes hang beautifully over them. Got a couple out in the back with a clear tarp over them and parked the lawnmower and such under there for winter protection. Now I'm sitting here eagerly scarfing future ideas!

Blooie, super excited that your Trumpet vine is growing well for you. I expect you to be providing plenty of pics of those winged jewels!

Garden Nut: I am also thinking that I may be able to come up with enough of an order in the spring to have some more CP delivered for me! Gotta love it. My plan: re-work my swing set sun room in the run to give the girls a winter sun room and a summer shelter from the rain. (Using the ridge pole of the swing set to hold up the arch of the CP.) Should also be able to work some of that space into a nice chick brooder. Also planning to do some more trellising in the garden, and have some trellises between the trees in the orchard. Will move some squash and tomatoes into the orchard to produce more garden space. Want to pick up some more old swing sets to act as trellis supports, and hold up the bird netting in the run.

So glad your able to get some panels. Sometimes I just take it for granted that not everyone has access to a trailer for hauling stuff. You will love how useful the panels are.

I love your's & Bee's hoop coops! I think they look so neat. If I ever have to rebuild my coops for some reason, I'm seriously thinking about going with hoop coops.

You'll love your trumpet vine. We have them all over the place and they are so pretty. I have a few trained in my yard, and mow over countless ones everywhere. They can get pretty invasive. I'm in a gardening group on facebook. I sent out about 20 sets of trumpet vine seeds to several people a few weeks ago.

I'm hoping to put up some panels in my garden this year for growing cantaloupe on. I want to bend them over a couple of beds and let them grow up the panels. I'm thinking from the outside of one bed to the outside of the next bed. Just depends on how much bend it will give them.

I planted cantaloupe in my spare chicken run last year. The vines ran up the sides and over the top of the runs. They grew really well. You can see them starting up the sides here.
