Caught a coon

We have a couple of big coons, and babies, in our area and so far all they've been eating is the cat food, but I'm not taking any chances so bought a live trap the other day. Yesterday morning I checked the trap and let one of our cats out. Yesterday afternoon I let another cat out. This morning we had a small coon in the trap! Unfortunately, I didn't have time to "remove" the critter from the trap but I will this afternoon.

Better to "remove" the coon than a chicken.

Raccoons love marshmellows, cats dont. it might keep you from catching your cats next time.

Great job catching your coon. If you you have 1 coon you have a herd of coons. I have caught 10 this year. marshmallows work for bait.

Caught another young coon this morning. I used catfood and marshmallows as bait. They woke me up at 4 this morning...mama was not happy that her kid had gotten into the trap. She hung around for a couple of hours until I ran her off when I left for work.

Grape jelly is a very good coon bait, you may catch a curious cat once, but will learn to leave it alone. If you use a meat/fish based bait will keep cathing cats too. Grape jelly generally has a stronger scent than marshmellows, and leave a residual scent on the trap pan if they manage to reach though the side of the trap.

I'm setting my trap tonight. Several nights in a row, they are sneaking into the coop- no visible way to get in...
