Caught Fox In Live Trap!

I read alot on here how "you can't catch a fox in a live trap".

For about 2 weeks something kept taking the bait out of my trap without triggering the switch to make the door shut.

I figured it was a smart coon or a sly fox.

Got 2 frozen chicken wings out of the freezer and tied 25 lb fish line to them and tied them to the back of the trap.

Next morning woke up and sure enough... had a grey fox in there the next morning.

Thank you so much for posting this. I am having predator issues right now, with the exception that we do not know for sure what kind of predator it is. I will try this in one of my live traps tonight. Thank you again!!!

Post a picture when you catch an adult red fox in a box trap. Grays are far easier to boxtrap, especially young fox.

The fact, no point was intended, is that red fox are a heck of a lot harder to box trap (with standard sized traps) than are gray fox, especially juveniles. I catch a lot of red fox yearly, and in 60 + years of trapping have only ever caught 4 reds in standard sized box traps. 3 were juveniles and the fourth was an adult male that was starving due to a broken lower jaw. Aprophet has put me onto "drift fence" trapping which I will be trying this fall. I am also going to get some "dog sized" box traps and try to perfect my technique. My comments were made with no intent to ruffle your feathers, so if you felt slighted in some fashion, I extend my abject apologies. Sourland George

Great job done! Fox are definately not easy to trap no matter what type trap, 'specially box-type traps. They are skillful at cleaning you out of your poultry so hopefully you have spared yourself of the misery of losing your flock. Just shows that one can "out-fox" a fox with a little thinking applied!
