Caught him!!!!!!!

IMO, I would say to consume these raccoons you catch. Afterall, it's free food and pelts for you and your carnivorous pets (i.e. dogs and cats). It solves two problems at once.

Just do one "BANG"!!! Problem solved.

That's what I'm gonna do when I catch this dang coon that's been hanging around the barn and fighting Koda every chance it gets in the barn.

A good dog will take care of them.
my girl got this one in the safe zone, guineas set off the alarm just before dark and this is what my girl found.

Good thing your dog did not get hurt. They become vicious when they are cornered. Not only are they chicken killers, they also kill other pets when they need to, plus carry horrible disease in their scat. Be very careful with raccoon poop. It is not something that you want anybody to be around--animal or human. Also, the little buggers can be carriers of rabies.

So I can contact an animal control officer to come and get him? I have not done anything with him yet, so is this what I should do?

OK, after contacting animal control, I will be issued (free of charge) a trapping permit for any future critters. But with this particular one, for a $50 fee, he will be picked up. Sheesh, who'd a thunk it? I always step in the biggest piles of doo doo.

You should have just killed the coon and not said anything.

Relocating in never a good idea, even though you said before it was "legal"

We once spoke to the animal control person in our area. He just told us that if an animal was killed on our property, don't tell him about him. (Otherwise he would have to do his job...) He was a very down to earth man who said that. The less involvement with animal control or anybody such as the DNR, the better. Their perspective may not be what yours or mine.

Coons are a dime a dozen in my neck of the woods. If you don't want to kill them, relocate them. Mum is the word. We also have our fair share of skunks, now that is a whole different story, no such thing as relocating a skunk.

Why would you risk making him someone else's problem potentially by relocating? Kinder to say "sorry" and pull the trigger. That cute little masked SOB will murder every bird you have and not to eat it because it is hungry but to kill it because it is there. And he will come back with friends and family. I have seen what one does and it comes back with others to join the fun. PM scbatz33 and tell her LadyHawk told you to PM...ask her what happened to her flock last year....30+ birds gone and at least 10 coons killed...I spent many nights at her place with a rifle waiting for the suckers to come back. Shoot it, drown it, suffocate it whatever but get rid of it.

Yes, in spite of how cute they are, I know how big of a problem they can be. I live in a pretty wooded area and I'm sure he was not alone. They are everywhere. My chickens are locked up tight each night so I don't worry about them. I have not had any problem from raccoons other than I knew they were coming around.
