Caught my egg stealer

To each their own. If that works for you then cool. I personally agree with JanetS who said that opossum will be back. Most varmints, once they find a food source, will return.

Imp,
You're a brave person, I'd never attempt to pet one, unless of course I was standing on it's head!

There used to be a member that would catch them and have his wife take pics of him holding them. I was always impressed by Rooster Red.

Here's mom and baby on my deck last spring.

Here's a adult I got brave enough to pick up by the tail.

A couple babies(about 6" long) I found eating Layena, in the coop, last summer. One might be the same as the other pic. Unfortunately neither survived to be adults. I grabbed them and put them in a bucket to get pics. 1 was super calm, 1 not so much.

Imp- Haven't been bit yet. lol

Agreed....but PLEASE don't live capture and then release it in my neighborhood!

You don't have to worry about me doing that. I'm probably one of the more barbaric people on here when it comes to dealing with these animals.

But just like I don't want people judging me for what I do, I won't judge others for what they do.

feel free to release it into my yard. My labs are getting bored.

But the opposum didnt hurt they chickens so why shoot it? Im sorry but unless it has harmed them i dont see the need to mindlessly shoot it.
Then again just my opinion i guess.

Didn't hurt the chickens, "yet". Why wait until it does? Possums have been known to kill chickens, you have just been lucky that so far that all you have lost is eggs. And btw, it is not mindless killing, it's protection of your property and stock. Possums are a threat to your birds, they carry disease and parasites. Kill it before it multiplies and you have a whole family visiting at night for snacks.

Save the bullets for real predators like Coyotes, Bobcats, Coons, or the possible human criminal. Possums don't attack chickens, at least not in 36 years I've lived around both.

If you search for "possum" here on BYC you will find lots of anecdotes from people who have lost birds to possums. There are also many who say the possums don't hurt their birds...clearly some do, and some don't. Why risk it?

Chicks or adults? I don't risk anything which is why one of my yards is electrified and the other covered. Save the rounds for the real dangers.
