I would recommend a frequent removal and through cleaning if you do prefer to use it.

I use a food grade DE whitwash in the coops regularly and make sure to hit the gaps real well. Been doing this for close to 11 months and there's never been a mite/lice problem.
I use horse rubber mats on my coop which it is Royal Outdoor shed....cleaning and washing was a snap and would not have it any other way of doing this differently. The only change I would make is get a BIGGER shed LOL!
