I was just wondering how many days in a row does everyone use ground Cayenne Pepper. I've been giving it to my girls now for 3 days in the morning mixed in with some wet food. Today I notice that their poo is turning black. Just wondering if I need to back off of the Cayenne Pepper now.

I wish I could help but I'm just very curious about if this works or not. I'm assuming you're doing it to get them to lay?

This was one reason but also as a deworming. I'm not comfortable giving them any meds. Want to be as natural as possible. In fact I have went from one laying to three laying. Not sure if it was the cayenne or not.

Oh ok. Yeah I've wondered if it worked for worming too. I'm like you, I don't want to give them drugs. I feed them garlic and hot peppers now and then and various seeds from time to time. Just in case. Did you know if they had worms to start with?

I don't think so. I have been putting Apple cider vinegar in their water and DE in their food from day one. Just thought this might not hurt too. I've got one that's been a little off. Acting strange. But she seems to be doing better. My husband said she was hormonal.

Hahaha. Yeah that's how we explain what we can't understand. Mine get plain water, gamebird and turkey grower and oystershells free choice all the time and our leftovers and scraps at night. Now and then I'll throw some extra garlic in or whatever and I throw corn or bird seed in the coop so they turn the bedding for me. Once n awhile I put acv in the water but not always, I'd hate to drink vinegar ALL the time. This morning they got some cayenne pepper though! If it gets them laying I'll try anything. Haha.

I'm not sure if it was the cayenne pepper or not but I now have four girls laying. Today I was blessed with 2 eggs in the morning and 2 eggs this afternoon. Before I only had two. Plus one of my Easter Egger is really close. Showing all the signs. I have stopped using the cayenne pepper the last couple of days since no one has answered my question. Figured I'd give them a few days off.

I have heard if your egg shells are dirty(poo) on them you should worm them. (The chickens) mine were and I added DE and about a 2 weeks later I did it again egg shells were clean and have been ever since. If shells come out dirty I give DE dry with food pellets and in a few days it clears up I stop the DE, It has worked for us... Our chickens have really stopped laying so we thinned out flock down to 10 girls. Egg production started to improve, today we got nine eggs its still very cold here in WY and we have some sunshine so it all helped.
My girls we thinned were old, we are getting new ones this spring. Just my 2 cents...... Lori

Luckily I've been having very clean eggs. So I'm seeing that as a good sign. My girls are all very active and healthy looking. And the shells on all the eggs are very strong and hard. Harder than store bought eggs. I do have oyster grit available but they haven't really eaten much.
