Hi...those are two 9 day old barnyard mix chicks from my very first hatch! I got 9 out of 13 eggs hatched...so for now, they are all in together. Whole box of cuteness

Ahhh, so cute! I just love the way the Cayugas look! They are so pretty!

I can't wait till they feather out...what beautiful colors

If only I had enough room for 3 of every kind of duck....

I have 2 Cayugas also....they were an impulse purchase from TSC in April....there were only a few in with a bunch of yellow ducks and I just couldn't resist them! I didn't even know what they were until I came home & looked it up.

They are so neat looking. Though mine aren't very social with me....kinda skittish, but that's probably my fault for not spending much time trying to tame them. The ducks sorta stick together on their own (often segregate themselves from the chickens) and I enjoy watching them from a distance just fine. But, they will come to me & take earthworms out of my hands....they LOVE worms!!

One thing I like about ducks is they grow a lot faster than chickens

....I also have 3 Rouens that were also bought in mid April and the male is already molting & getting a green head. The Cayugas are only just starting to show some of that iridescence on their heads as well.

Does anybody know if there's a way to tell the difference between a male & female Cayuga based on adult plumage? Or do I just need to wait & see who ends up laying eggs? They are much quieter than my Rouen ducks so I have a hard time listening to their voices to determine gender. My two female Rouens are quacking LOUDMOUTHS and tend to overpower any other duck noises...hard to tell who's saying what
