I have had Cayugas, and really enjoyed them. In fact, after I sold them, I missed them so much, I am going to keep a trio or two around again.
Ours were EXCELLENT foragers, and very gentle and personable. They layed decent sized eggs, not as often as our Anconas, but layed relatively consitently.
very nice larger breed duck, dont fly, very colorful, good temperment, not mean at all like some domestic breeds. Lots of people love them, great choice
I currently have 21 Show Quality cayugas and I LOVE them. Lay everyday, are drop dead gorgeous, when the light hits them right they're jaw dropping. Mine are all very smart and personable. Can't fly at all and are a good medium duck.
Thanks for this info, because I have two not-so-little Cayuga ducklings in a brooder in my bathroom right now. I'm hoping I have either two ducklets or a ducklet and drakelet. They're a tad over a month old. This weekend I'm going to take the babies - 4 chicks and the 2 ducklings - outdoors for a "day trip" in the sun, in a protected coop/run area. (I have 9 adult chickens.)
Mine are just starting to get feathers, although they are about a thousand times bigger than they were when I bought them at the feed store. Okay, maybe only six or seven times larger... they grow so fast I can tell the difference from when I say good-bye before I go to work and when I get back home at night!!
One of them whistles. Their peeps were always more whistley than peepy, compared to chicks. I have never SEEN which one whistles; it does it just after I close the bathroom door on my way out. No quacks yet at all.
i've heard they're good ducks and i'm trying to find some. but where to find some????going to a poultry sale tomorrow maybe i'll find some, they usually have tons of ducks
