Does anyone have experience with them.? I am thinking about getting two as chicks and breeding them.

1. How quiet are cayugas (compared to your other ducks/chickens) ?

2. How well do they lay?

3. How is there disposition. Are they mean?

4. Can They Fly? (this is a stupid question, i guess)

5. How do you tell the difference in gender (from appearance)?

Thank You Very Much!!!

1. My hen is quiet - unless she is nagging my drake, lol
2. I havent really kept count... but she isnt the best layer. I might have gotten 60 - 70 eggs from her this year. If even that.
3. She isnt mean at all! SHe is the quiet little follower lol. SHe is my drake's shadow.
4. Yeah, kinda, I mean she flys a good seven - eight feet off the ground and a good 30 yards when she is excited or thinks she is too far away from the barn.
5. Males have a drake feather, other than that, not much difference.

She isnt very irridescent since she is a hatchery duck - but she is still a cutie!

My Cayugas laid eggs all fall this year, I purchased a drake and two hens at an auction in September and both laid eggs almost everyday until we got cold in December. Since then, I am not sure how many eggs they have laid as they are in with the rest of the ducks and I am not sure who is laying eggs. But they seem to be quite calm and nice ducks, not mean at all. The hens will Quack once in a while but not too often.

Here they are:

I have 5 of them. I like them plenty my only complaint - they're not the smartest duck. At night I put my ducks in a enclosed area for predator protection. The cayuga are always the last in line and some how when all the other ducks go in the pen. They get "Lost" in the last 5 feet.

I has 2 hens, not sure about laying because we sold them before they laid. They were quite a talkative pair though. They couldn't fly much except short bursts. They weren't mean but we got them from someone who never handled them so they were skittish. Males usually have curled tails I believe.
