Cayuga Ducks

How old was she? Most "flightless" breeds of ducks have a few month period while they're young when they can fly quite well - after they've feathered out, but before their bodies have really filled out, so they're lighter than they will be when they're mature and can get enough lift.

My Indian Runners (another non-flying breed) can all flap over a 3-foot fence, but a 4-foot fence keeps them in.

Anywho - I know someone who has Cayugas and thinks I'm nuts for not having any. She LOVES hers. Whenever we get together and I show her the newest pictures of my flock she shakes her head and says, "No Cayugas?"

Apparently, they're great!

They are great, and have to say, these are totally flightless, if they flew off, they werent cayugas . I have raised them for years and years, and never once at any age had one able to do more than the flap and run, feet never come off the ground, least none of the houndreds I've had have.

She was born in June. I have a 6 foot fence up. I'm telling you she can fly.

That's VERY odd then, you got a pick of her? Never seen a flyer in cayugas, they're just too heavy... would love to see her though!
