I am torn between the cayuga duck and the rouen duck. Note: these will be "pet ducks", not "farm" ducks. I am buying them for pt qualities, not meat and egg qualities. I am looking for the qualities below:

-pretty
-entertaining
-quiet(we live in close proximity to neighbors)
-calm/peaceful(e.g. doesnt get scared or freak out easily)
-Friendly(perhaps the most important)
-easy to care for

Which of the two ducks(cayuga/rouen) exhibits all or most of these qualities? Thanks in advance!

I have Pekins, which are super friendly, but if I got another breed (other than runners) I would definitely go Cayuga. They are so beautiful. And their cute little black baby feet are just to die for...

I have both breeds and for the most part they are the same. They are both pretty and entertaining. The cayugas are prettier though. For the most part they are quiet but they do quack and it can be loud. They are both pretty calm. They aren't as noticeable as my Ancona, welsh harlequins, and khaki Campbell's make themselves out to be. And they are friendly, but any duck can be friendly. Its all about how you raise them.

I have both of those plus a black Swedish and blue Swedish. The black Swedish is by far the most personable but that just may be her personality. If I was looking for a bird as a pet I would go for a Muscovy (gotta get past their looks), or a Toulouse goose.

If they are both the same personality and noise level i will go with rouen. I just think it is prettier because of the green head, we have mallards up here in NJ so the green head brown body just looks more natural.

There's also a Rouen thread on here if your looking for pics or information about them specifically
