I have been wanting to get some Cayuga ducks for a really long time and finally had a chance to get some. I ordered 2 from my feed store and got them a couple of days ago, they order from Ideal. I really don't know if I got what I paid for though (way more than they list them for from the hatchery), they seem to have to much yellow on them. I asked the lady your sure they aren't Swedish and she said they were labled in the box and they are for sure Cayugas. Did I just get poor hatchery/pet quality ducks? I know they get white feathers after a few years but I wanted plain black shiny ducks for at least 2 or 3 years before they start to change, I hope they yellow doesn't feather in white. If they aren't Cayugas or feather in white I will probably try and sell them and get some higher quality ones even though I love these. So let me know what you think, also please post pictures if you have Cayugas from Ideal-ducklings or full grown.
Oh one of them is crested and the other isn't, I hope the crested is a girl. Also they are approx. 10 days old.

They yellow goes almost all the way down this ones chest.

If they are in fact cayuga they will have a little white on them. Cayuga ducklings should be all black granted the chest can be lighter but not yellow like that.

they are just poor quality, i also ordered cayugas from Ideal and they have quite a bit of white on them

I got my Cayugas from Metzer...*I* think they were high quality. While there was a tint of yellow on the chest, they feathered out beautifully with no white and high iridescent feathers. Beautiful.
Unless someone has some other resource for you, I would recommend Metzer.

I think I paid 6$ for sexed.

My last lo tof blue Runners that hatched had all baby fuzz yellow down their chest like that but when I looked at the fuzz it didnt go all the way down to the body. The guy whos got them now said the yellow fuzz has fallen out and they are blue.

Granted, there's not as much yellow...but considering even the yellow portion under her chin didn't turn white, I think yours have "hope"

love your duck. I guess I will hope until they are full grown. I may still be interested in eggs if anyone has some and wanted to pm me. I wanted to order some but the shipping just kills me. These were $9 each but it's still cheaper than getting 2 ducklings with the shipping cost.

I ordered some Cayugas from IDEAL and they are mostly black with the chest a little lighter. I'm hoping they will look OK when grown. I also ordered some BEIs which was a dumb thing to do because they are almost the same size as the Cayugas - certainly not bantam size. Now I know why they are the only hatchery that ships them as babies.
